Which of these tracks is not like the others? Brian Gardner at Bernie Grundman Mastering in LA was the mastering engineer for these 24-bit-depth tracks, some having over -10dB of Replaygain. That’s kind of like saying you have a 24-foot-deep pool when in reality you dug a 24-foot-deep hole and filled it with 10 feet of concrete before putting water in it.

Don
Did they finally release proper 24-bit files instead of the padded 16-bit?
Shame that Trent Reznor still feels the need to fight the loudness war…

I’ve been keeping an eye on the HA thread; I don’t think so. Are you saying it’s a shame that the loudness war continues, or that Trent wants to fight in it (for the good of music, I assume)?

Don
I meant it’s a shame he had to get suckered in and that it continues unabated.

Trent has personally replied in the thread and explained the problem. He said the new WAVs are up. I’m going to check them out tonight.

Hmm. I’ve got the new 24/96 FLACs and they have roughly the same ReplayGain values. I’d thought if they used more of the 24-bit-depth’s resolution, they wouldn’t need to be reduced in amplitude as much (signified by lower RG correction) to get to the RG reference level. Perhaps I need to go back to Rock School.
